Cleaning your House at the End of a Tenancy Cleaning your House at the End of a Tenancy 13 February 2014

So, it’s come to the end of your lease, and you have realized that on the tenancy agreement, it states that you need to get the place professionally cleaned. Now, the landlord is rarely aware of whether you have cleaned the place professionally or not, and will simply judge as to whether you have by way of how clean they deem the place to be. Therefore, you have two option, get the place cleaned by a professional cleaning team, or do it all yourself and save a bit of cash. Both of these options make sense for their own reasons, so let’s have a look at the various pros and cons for each.

For a start, let’s have a look at the idea of cleaning the place yourself. For a start, you will save a fair bit of cash. Getting a cleaner in will likely cost you a fair bit of money, but given that it is usually done by the hour, it depends on the size of your house. Given that this is a massive variable, it is certainly worth checking out how much the cleaning companies around you think it would cost, rather than dismissing the idea out of principal. Besides the money that you would save, there is the fact that you can be flexible with your cleaning times. Rather than waiting for everything to be out of the house, you can make a head start on the cleaning of the place before you start your move properly, so that once everything is out of there, you simply have to have a quick dust and a run round with the mop or vacuum cleaner. This makes the process less stressful for you, as you are not running by anyone else’s timetable. Essentially you can do things when you want and how you want.

In terms of the negatives for cleaning the place on your own, is the fact that it will take you ages, and that time will be placed amid the time when you are the most stressed over the move itself! You will no doubt find that getting the place cleaned properly will be a serious pain when you are having to deal with sorting the move out. This stress can do serious things to your concentration, which can mean that you don’t do the job properly, and this may mean that the place gets left less clean than it needs to be, at least in your land lord’s eyes.

Having the place cleaned professionally can be a nuisance as mentioned above, mainly for the cost and the stresses of having to organize things around someone else’s arrangements. You will also potentially be concerned about having strangers in your home whilst you are moving out, as this process can be a time when you may not notice that things have gone missing until it is too late!

On the plus side for getting the house cleaned professionally, there are all the negatives for not doing so! Getting a professional cleaner will ensure that your place gets completely sorted, without you really having to lift a finger! The fact is, once all of your furniture and belongings are removed from the house, the cleaning is a lot easier, and will take less time than you may have expected. With this comes a cheaper rate, as well as the fact that you will be able to get a receipt form the cleaning company saying that the whole house has been cleaned thoroughly, which you can show to your landlord in a disagreement over the matter!
